French Comedy classics also illustrate the importance of dialogs (e.g \u201cLes Tontons flingueurs\u201d, literally Gun-toting uncles, also known as \u201c<strong>Monsieur Gangster<\/strong>\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At first, in the early 20th Century, comedy films were<br \/>\nconsidered a subgenre, until they grew over the years to cult status and classics, becoming part of popular culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some French comedy films even became the showcase of French cinema abroad (e.g romantic comedy \u201c<strong>Amelie<\/strong>\u201d), receiving critical acclaim and winning awards, sometimes even adapted in the US.
