{"id":16273,"date":"2016-11-23T15:21:22","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T13:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ife.ee\/en\/?p=16273"},"modified":"2016-11-28T09:57:16","modified_gmt":"2016-11-28T07:57:16","slug":"french-politician-conference-human-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.ife.ee\/en\/french-politician-conference-human-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference of Human Rights: immigration and famous French politician"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Famous French politician and Professor of Political Science\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #008ac9;\">Dominique Reyni\u00e9, himself\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">will participate at the\u00a0annual Conference of Human Rights on <strong>9 December<\/strong> in Tallinn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The sixth edition of the event\u00a0will focus on two topical issues of international concern:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>migration<\/strong> with a main focus on immigration issues;<\/li>\n<li><strong>propaganda<\/strong>, as it related to freedom of speech.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year\u2019s topics include a <strong>public opinion survey on human rights conducted among Estonians, and among new immigrants living in Estonia<\/strong> regarding their assessment of human rights and their acclimation to Estonia. We will speak about collective rights and propaganda, which have changed people\u2019s understanding about fundamental rights.<\/p>\n<p>In light of the migration crisis, we will ask, <strong>\u201cWho is European and who has the right to be European?\u201d<\/strong> And we will also examine whether, in a Europe of increasingly contradictory ideologies, the concept of universal human rights is still viable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dominique Reyni\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0will discuss with\u00a0<strong>Thilo Sarrazin\u00a0<\/strong>German writer, politician and a former member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank about the\u00a0migration crisis that has raised questions related to human rights and made many people doubt the fundamental values of the European Union, while raising issues related to the freedom of speech and expression.\u00a0Based on the universality of human rights and discussing European values, we must ask, \u201cWho is European and who has the right to be European?\u201d We will examine whether the spread of extremist ideologies has caused a crisis in freedom of speech and expression.<\/p>\n<p>We are interested in whether a uniform and effectively functioning Europe is even possible, when various political forces, as well as various ideas and cultures are vigorously confronting each other in neighbouring states.
