He knows how to show us the hypocrisy within ourselves and gives us the strength to laugh about it. A vice is a vice, we all know that. The best way to overcome vices in Moli\u00e8re\u2019s day, and nowadays, is to prove how ridiculous they are. To show that deception is comical and hypocrisy is funny. Imposters submit to reproach, they\u2019re ready to admit that they are bad, but most of all, they don\u2019t want to be ridiculed!<\/p>\n

“Bella Figura\u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\"BellaYasmina Reza has written this play. I have previously directed her plays Art<\/em> and Angel of Destruction<\/em>.\u00a0 As an author, she suits me since on the one hand she is very realistic and on the other hand she knows how to see cracks in that ordinariness, out of which seeps intense divine light. The kind of light that we do not necessarily see in everyday life.<\/p>\n

Bella figura<\/em>. At first it may seem that the title refers to the summer company picnic of a modelling agency, but no. This is far more intriguing. A man cheats on his wife with a nice young lady and gets caught. And it happens in such a dumb way, at a restaurant in front of everybody. His wife\u2019s best girlfriend sees them. But then things start unfolding and unfolding and unfolding just as things always do in a seafood restaurant. It takes time to peel crustaceans but the meat inside is tasty. And we still end up arriving at the fact that the externally visible portrait of people is something altogether different than their actual intentions. That is what Bella figura<\/em> means as an image \u2013 try to be nice. I hope you get to laugh and cry.<\/p>\n

“The Map and the Territory\u201c<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0Juhan Ulfsak\u2019s production of \u201cThe Map and the Territory\u201d is based on Michel Houellebecq\u2019s novel by the same name but also incorporates the claims, feelings and tone of Houellebecq\u2019s other novels, interviews and statements. The central character is Jed, who is in the middle of a wildly successful career as an artist. Jed is surrounded by people who can be considered to be part of the \u201cart world\u201d. They run galleries and make art and the lovely Olga is one of them. They talk about art, beauty and the world. Together, they face middle age and growing old. Jed\u2019s rhythm is broken only by the moments he spends with his retired father when they watch sports together. Everyone lives a calm but joyless life. And then, there\u2019s a murder.<\/p>\n

The novel \u201cThe Map and the Territory\u201d won the highest French literary honour, the Prix Goncourt.<\/p>\n
