IS FEMINISM AN OUTDATED CONCEPT, OR THE RIGHT ANSWER TO CURRENT Societal problems?<\/h3>\n

Women’s rights: how many of us feel like we’ve been talking about it sufficiently? That the struggle for equality is over in our developed countries? Indeed, in Estonia, maternity leave is paid 80% for a year and a half – a big achievement, much better than in France. And in both countries, basic freedoms are guaranteed.<\/p>\n

And yet, Estonia is the one country with the biggest gender pay gap, with a 30% difference in wage for the same position. In France, domestic violence is a societal issue so big that a woman dies every third day after being beaten up by her partner.<\/p>\n

The French Institute in Estonia, alongside its partners (the Museum of Occupations, NORDEN, Feministeerium, and the Estonian Institute of Human Rights), wished to create a project on equality of rights between men and women – in a word, a feminist project.<\/p>\n

GENDER INEQUALITY STILL A REALITY IN EUROPE<\/h3>\n

Current international events, including declarations of some leaders, remind us how right were the words of the French philosopher and writer Simone de de Beauvoir: “<\/strong>Never forget that a political, economical or religious crisis is enough to cast doubt on women\u2019s rights.”

The aims of the #naistEST project are to question the world that surrounds us, to pursue debates, and to raise awareness around women’s rights. It’s by addressing the topic that we’ll be able to find solutions for everyone to gain the same rights and opportunities.<\/p>\n

This debate will be fueled by our programming of exhibitions, free movies and documentaries, conferences…<\/p>\n
