Entitled &#8220;A Certain Idea of Europe&#8221;, it aims at inviting high-level experts to share their views about today&#8217;s Europe, and will be broadcast in universities and institutions throughout the continent (Oxford, Aosta, Berlin&#8230;). The goal is to build a high quality, pan-European debate on the current stakes and challenges of Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The French Institute of Estonia and the Permanent Representation of the European Commission invite you to live these exceptional moments in Tallinn.<\/p>\n<p>Every <strong>video broadcast of the conference in Paris (50mn, in French with subtitles in English)<\/strong> will be followed by a<strong> live debate with local speakers and the audience (in English, 30mn)<\/strong> in reaction to the lecture.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Thursday 3 May, 5pm at the EU House (Laikmaa 15): Thomas Piketty on inequalities in Europe and democracy in the Euro area<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"comp-jd72z4ov\" class=\"txtNew\" data-packed=\"true\">\n<p class=\"font_8\">Thomas Piketty is a french economist, world-wide known for its book <em>Capital in the Twenty-First Century<\/em>. He was awarded in 2002 as the best young economist of France and was selected in 2012 among the the most 100 influential intellectuals in the world by the review <em>Foreign Policy<\/em>. His work, which sparks a great debate on the wealth distribution and the type of capital, is focused on the economic inequalities. It is based on the deep reflexion on most of the essential concept of political philosophy that Myriam Revault d\u2019Allonnes will be invited to think about a younger concept, the one of Europe and the European Union.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Late May: Patrick Boucheron<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"font_8\">Patrick Boucheron is a Professor at the Coll\u00e8ge de France, where he holds the chair of &#8220;History of the Powers in Western Europe, 13th-16th Centuries&#8221;. It is because Patrick Boucheron has always examined, from his earliest works, the relevance of different scales of analysis that the has been invited to speak in this cycle of conferences. From Europe-wide comparative history of urban phenomena to the volumes of world history that he directed (<em>Histoire du monde au XVe si\u00e8cle<\/em>, Fayard, 2009; <em>Histoire mondiale de la France<\/em>, Le Seuil, 2017), Patrick Boucheron has always thought of his initial Italian field of research in the context of larger spatial and heuristic scales of analysis.
