Photo exhibition “Look for the woman” #NaistEST

Photo exhibition “Look for the woman” #NaistEST

On the occasion of the #naistEST campaign, the French Institute suggested to the Museum of Occupations an exhibition of works from the French photographer Nicole Miquel questioning the concept of femininity.

The exhibition called “Look for the woman” will take place at the Museum of Occupations in Tallinn. It opens on March 8th, the International Day of Women Rights. It is part of a trilogy, alongside an exhibition on the great Estonian feminist who once lived in Paris Marie Reisik, and one on feminist diplomacy.

Ahead of the exhibition, several free screenings of movies will take place at the cinema Artis:

  • Saturday March 4 at 5pm: Violette, French biopic on Violette Leduc, a feminist writer who was a friend to Simone de Beauvoir
  • Sunday March 5 at 5pm: La Belle Saison (“The nice season”), drama comedy on a love affair between two women, a farmer and a feminist teacher, in France during the 70’s
  • Monday March 6 at 7pm: The Mountain Queen (Kurmanjan Datka), khirgiz blockbuster about the first woman in history of Central Asia who had the title of “Datka” (general) while being a queen.
  • Tuesday March 7 at 7pm: Et maintenant, on va où? (“And now, where do we go?”), a French-Libanese-Egyptian-Italian comedy taking place in a small Libanese village where women of both muslim and christian communities will try to avoid men killing each other

All movies will be in French with Estonian + Russian subtitles, except the Khirgiz movie that will be subtitled in English.

Then, for 2 months, debates and workshops are planned to take place at the Museum of Occupations (more info to be released soon).

The whole #naistEST project is organized with our partners: the Museum of Occupations, the NORDEN organization (Ministers council of Scandinavian countries), the NGO Feministeerium and the Estonian Institute of Human Rights.

This project also takes place as part of the Month of Francophonie, every year in March around the world!
