Beloved children’s book author Davide Cali offers a workshop for any person interested in learning about what children’s books are written in France, how to write novels for a young public and short stories for the youngest of readers.
Unpublished authors are welcome to attend, both book illustrators who would like to write stories and writers who cannot draw themselves.
During the workshop, participants will be shown books and offered to participate in writing exercises. One such exercise will be to write a story in 15 minutes! People often panic at this point, but participants are guaranteed to succeed! Along the weekend participants will be asked to complete tens of written exercises and will have to do some homework.
Some of the exercises are meant as practice to writing short stories for magazines, which is an important resource for authors in France. Each week, dozens of children’s magazines appear in newspaper stands.
A small portion of the workshop will be dedicated to the practicalities of working as an author: contracts, copyright, royalties etc.
The workshop is in English and free for everyone.
