Jean-Philippe Toussaint is a Franco-Belgian author, photographer and film director. His work is widely influenced by the “nouveau roman” wave of the 50s, with a minimalist style. He is mainly interested in the human condition and the issues that come with it. That explains why his characters are constantly trying to find their place in the world; that being said, Toussaint has a prejudice-free approach to writing.
He also writes about more trivial topics, such as football. In 2006, he published “La Mélancolie de Zidane”, and in 2016 “Football”, in which he takes a closer and more analytical look at his love for football.
During the festival HeadRead, Toussaint will have a talk with the author and translator Trllnu Tamn at the Estonian writer’s Union on Saturday May 27th at 5pm.
The talk will be in French and translated in Estonian.
