Exhibition “Ocean and Climate” at Haapsalu’s library from july 4th

If you’re going to Haapsalu, do not miss the exhibit called “Ocean and Climate” at the library! It will be open from july 4th to july 28th.

This exhibition’s purpose is to raise awareness about the important role played by the ocean in the climate wolrdwide and especially the climate change today. This role is essential but still unknown from the public. “Ocean and Climate” was made by the IRD (the French Research Institute for Development) and targets a young audience.

The climate conditions our lives as human beings, our ressources, our health and our growth. The ocean has a key role in the complex mechanisms regulating the climate. It stores the sun’s heat and carries it from the tropical to the temperate regions. The ocean interacts with the atmosphere and contributes to make our planet habitable.

In a context of global warming, the study of the relations between the ocean and, more than ever, the climate, has become a major scientific issue.

The exhibit will be introduce by Stéphane Clavel,

The exhibition was created by the French Research Institute for Development (IRD)

The IRD is a key French player on the international development agenda. It worksis  based on an original model: equitable scientific partnership with developing countries, primarily those in the intertropical regions and the Mediterranean area. The IRD believes that only this model allows us to design solutions which are adapted to the challenges that humans and the planet are facing: pandemics, climate change, humanitarian and political crises, etc. Because development challenges are challenges for the whole planet.

And the French Foreign Affairs Ministry and International Development (MAEDI)
The Foreign Affairs Ministry and International Development manages with its external network and many research agencies, an action based on the internationalization of the French research and the support to sustainable development. In doing so, the Ministry develops a policy of scientific partnerships with European countries but also developing countries. It also supports innovation and technological partnerships.
