On April 21, the French harpsichord player Nadja Lesaulnier will give the only concert of the festival’s opening day. Well known young musician, she’s appreciated for her solo interpretations as well as for her sense of chamber music and her creative continuo playing.
Born in Aix-en-Provence, in 1986, Nadja Lesaulnier started her musical formation with Pierre Hantaï and Élisabeth Joyé in Paris, before moving to Barcelona to take part in Béatrice Martin’s external degree at the Escuola Superior de Musica de Catalunya. She also studied chamber music with Manfredo Kraemer.
In 2003, Nadja began studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, with Jesper B. Christensen, Andrea Marcon and Jörg-Andreas Bötticher. She also took part in courses by Andreas Scholl, Paolo Pandolfo, Gerd Türk and Chiara Banchini. She completed a harpsichord soloist diploma with honours in 2007 and a master in Basso Continuo in 2010.
As a solo harpsichordist, Nadja Lesaulnier performs all over the world: Vienna (Italia Mia), Venice, Schaffhausen (Bach Festspiel), Saint-Paul-MN (Baroque Room), Vermillion-SD (National Music Museum), Basel (Cembalo in der Stadt Basel), Utrecht (Oude Muziek Festival), Stuttgart (Europäisches Musikfest), Zurich, London, Philadelphia (Curtis Institute), Tokyo and Kanazawa (Folles Journées).
In addition to her career as a harpsichordist, Nadja Lesaulnier plays the baroque violin, the baroque cello and the baroque double bass. She also plays the piano and the fortepiano, studying in 2010 with Jean-Jacques Dünki at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel.
