The Festival of Francophonie will take place in Estonia 9-22 March 2016.
March is internationally celebrated as the month of Francophonie. It is a unique opportunity to celebrate the French language and the richness of French culture.
Exciting events will take place in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and Haapsalu. Check out below the detailed programme of events.
IN TALLINN:
- Youth Literature, 9 and 10 March. French illustrator Olivier Tallec will visit us. He is renowned for both his work with the press (Libération, Le Monde, Elle, etc…) and for publishing over a hundred Youth books. He will meet the public in Tallinn, accompanied by Indrek koff, March 9, 4pm at the Youth literature Center.
- Painting exhibition, from 11 March onwards at the Adamson-Eric museum: “Cities of light, Estonian painters and European megalopolis”. The exhibition will focus on Paris as a major source of inspiration for Estonian painters.
- Family Day, 12 March, 12-4 pm, « Fête de la Francophonie », at Tallinn 32nd High School (Tallinna 32. Keskkool), this free fair, open to everyone, will be the highlight of the celebrations. Have a go at Hockey, Africarythmic, French Karaoke, photobooth and face painting… ! Not to mention the food stalls and the prizes to win !
- Conference, 14 March, 10 am: a public lecture in French, “La Diversité créative: une richesse à partager”, given by Charles Vallerand (Canada).
- Canadian cinema, 16 March, 6pmfree screening of the canadian film « La passion d’Augustine”, Artis cinema.
- Swiss cinema: 17 March (6pm) and March 18 (2pm) discover Swiss and Luxembourgish films at the French Institute.
- Music and Dance, 19 March. Tantsulaager special edition at NO99 : dance and party to French music!
- Gastronomy : 21 March with the event “Goût de France/GoodFrance” : 13 estonian restaurants will offer a menu “à la française”. For a detailed list click here.
- Theater : 16,21,22 March, the Molière play « the Misanthrope » will be staged in estonian estonien with French subtitles at the Draamateater. To know more, click here.
IN HAAPSALU:
- Jazz concert: 7 March, 7pm by the jazz trio “Les Incendiaires” at Haapsalu cultural center.
- Cinema: 11 March, 7pm on srceen the French film “Jappeloup” at Innokas.
- Cinema / Cartoons: 14 March, 2 :30 pm a cartoon afternoon will be organised at NOortekeskus for the younger ones (and older !)
- Card games: 15 March, 11 am, in Sotsiaalmaja, gather around a coffee and learn to play « belote », this all time popular French card game.
- Children / Comic books : 18 March, 2pm in Lasteraamatukogu, children will enjoy discovering the making process of a comic book.
- Cinema : 18 March, 7pm the Classic French film “L’homme de Rio”, starring jean-Paul Belmondo, will be screened at Innokas.
- Gastronomy: 21 March with the event “Goût de France/GoodFrance” : 13 estonian restaurants will have a menu “à la française”, for instance Bergfeldt at Fra Mare Spa in Haapsalu. For a detailed list click here.

IN TARTU:
- Writing Workshop: 15 March, 8pm (Lossi 3) join a Writing Workshop in French ! Whatever your level, you will make it!
- Cinema : Wednesday 16 March (Lossi 3, 8pm), screening of “Indigènes” (Days of Glory), a film directed by Rachid Bouchareb. The cast won the 2006 Cannes Film Festival award. Trailer here. French subtitles.
- Cooking class : 19 March (Lossi 3, 8pm) learn to cook French recipes!

IN PÄRNU:
- Jazz concert : 12 March, 9:30 pm, Endla theater Jazz club, where the swinging Jazz trio “Les Incendiaires” will play for you!
