The Embassy of Canada is taking an active part in the Festival of Francophonie.
They will organise several events : first a Conference by Charles Vallerand, Executive Director of the Coalition for Cultural Diversity, then a film screening at Artis theatre.
14 March 10am, at Tallinn University, Charles Vallerand will hold a speech about : “Diversity in creativity, our treasure to share”.
Charles Vallerand has more than 25 years of international experience in managing issues at a corporate level for national public institutions, primarily in the cultural sector, in the context of francophone cultural partnership. He worked at the Canadian Embassy in Paris, was an advisor to the Vice-President of Radio Canada’s French TV and held several posts as director for TV5 Québec Canada. He acted as director for an NGO promoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. For the past five years he has been the Executive Director of the Canadian Coalition for Cultural Diversity and General Secretary of the International Federation for Cultural Diversity.
The conference is in French and will take place in Tallinn University, Silva building, auditorium S-328. (Narva mnt 29, 3d floor).
16 march, 6pm, Artis cinema : screening of the acclaimed Canadian film, “la Passion d’Augustine” (2015, directed by Léa Pool).
Synopsis : in a small convent school in rural Quebec, Mother Augustine provides a musical education to young women no matter their socio-economic background. She takes in young Alice, a rebellious and gifted piano player, who brings her back painful memories. With the looming changes brought by Vatican II and Quebec’s Quiet Revolution, the school’s future is at peril.
The film won two Canadian Screen Awards at the 4th Canadian Screen Awards in 2016, for Best Actress (Céline Bonnier) and Best Original Score (François Dompierre). For the 18th Quebec Cinema Awards, The Passion of Augustine received 10 nominations including for best picture and best director.
