Café Europa: Debate on the Freedom of the Press | French Presidency of the EU

On the occasion of the French presidency of the European Union, the French Institute of Estonia organizes the event “Café Europa 2022” on March 5th from 10:30 to 12:00 at Kohvik Must Puudel.

On March the 5th, the cafés emblematic of the long-standing European tradition of dialogue and encounters will host discussions with French and local journalists in various cities regarding the freedom of the press and its future. The Café Europa 2022 programme entails: discussions on the relationship of trust between journalists and the general public, the political and economic independence of the media, the future of the profession in a context of digital and technological disruption, the spread of misinformation and false news, etc. Through frank and open dialogue, Café Europa 2022 will reflect the tensions and perspectives that characterize the world of media today.

In Tallinn, we will welcome as speakers

  • Ms Helle Tiikmaa, president and managing director of Estonian Association of Journalists and a freelance journalist, and
  • Ms Marielle Vitureau, French correspondent for Radio France Internationale, Courrier International and Le Figaro in the Baltic Countries.

They will discuss the protection of investigative journalists, as well as the data access and the trends to prevent it.

The discussion will be opened by a few words from the French Ambassador.
