On July 27, the father and son duo will give a unique performance. Miquèu Montanaro and his son Balthazar will play their creations from various areas : musical improvisations, new traditionnal musics and world musics. Indeed, their collaboration takes roots into international openness and their origins in Provence (South East of France). Through their music, they want to show respect to cultural heritages and to cultural blending.
The Compagnie Montanaro is quite nomadic and tries to create bridges between various musical genres. It wants to emulate dialogue and evolution. Their creations put together and cut various ideas and themes to compose ambitious but sometimes minimalistics themes.
Baltazar Montanaro is a violinist from the village of Correns in the Provence area whose mother’s side of the family is from Hungary and whose father is a proud Provençal. Baltazar has performed at the festival before but this time he is returning with his father Miquèu who has travelled around land and sea for over forty years and played together with musicians from all over the world. Even though Baltazar has been playing together with his father since he was young, the two travellers started professionally working together in 2008. Now they travel the world together, continuing their quest for adventure, musical discoveries and meeting new people. They are constantly working on their repertoire, writing new songs while celebrating the Occitan and Hungarian folk music heritage which forms the living and breathing heart of their music.
