For its XXXIth edition, the Pärnu International Documentary and Anthropology Film Festival offers a beautiful selections of movies shot by French and French-speaking directors, from July 3rd to 16th.
The theme of the festival is the “art of living” and the organizers chose two quotes to symbolize the festival’s state of mind: “If a farmer ploughing a field looks over his shoulder to admire his straight groove, he is an artist“ said by the French impressionist painter Auguste Renoir and, “The longer you are a child the longer you are an artist” said by the Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi.
The art of living or the art of survival? The festival will try to answer with the selected documentaries.

French auteurs have won the Pärnu Film Festival Grand Prize only once. It was in 1990 for the movie Le chant des harmoniques directed by Hugo Zemp.
Two famous French documentaries have earned the Estonian People’s Award: Les Glaneurs et la glaneuse (“the gleaners and I”) directed by the respected artist Agnès Varda, in 2001 and Être et avoir (“to be and to have”) directed by Nicolas Philibert, in 2003.
