Indeed, this is a call to all francophones in Tallinn, whether you are a rocket science or not :
Join us for the “Café des Sciences”, Thursday 2 June 2016, 6:30 pm.
This event is organised in partnership with the Department of philosophy, Tallinn Technology University. This will be an opportunity to discuss various subjects around a snack : what is Philosophy in Science ? What are the implications of scientific research on ethics ?
We will have the great pleasure to welcome Stéphanie Ruphy, a lecturer in Philosophy of Science, and Head of the Department for Philosophy, Languages and Practice (University Grenoble-Alpes, France). She is in Tallinnn as part of the annual Philosophy Conference in Estonia (3-4 June 2016), where she will also deliver a speech with the support of the French Institute.
The speech theme delivered, 2 june, will be : “What responsibilities for scientists today ?”. The presentation will be followed by a Q & A session with the public.
The talk will be in French and is adapted to non-specialists.

Stéphanie Ruphy is a Philosophy lecturer at Pierre Mendes France University-France, and Chair of the Department of Philosophy, Practices and Languages, Vice-president in charge of Interdisciplinary issues at Grenoble-Alpes University. Besides, since 1 january 2015, she has been Chair of the Society for Philosophy of Sciences, and since 2011, elected member of the National French Committee for History and Philosophy of Sciences. |

“We now live in an “era of science”, with unprecedented impact of scientific breakthroughs in our society, and where technological innovations have raised major ethical dilemmas. It brings about the question of moral responsibility of scientists. What for exactly should a scientist be held responsible ?”.
